2019 Year in Review

In 2019, Oneworld Accuracy (1WA) teams have been very active working on very existing projects and improvements on several fronts.

Oneworld Accuracy welcomed, Jeff Christensen, as our new Director, Technology. Jeff came in after the retirement of Charlie MacLachlan who had been with the company for over 15 years.

In the beginning of 2019, 1WA was very pleased to have Dr. Mike Noble join its Scientific Advisory Board in the Capacity of Director, Microbiology EQA. Thanks to Dr. Mike Noble and his extensive expertise, we introduced significant changes to our microbiology programs and conducted EQA sample Production (trainings) in three different countries to help them with their National AMR Action Plan.

On the technology front, 1WA fully implemented Virtual Microscopy into its informatics system (OASYS). A Virtual Microscopy Image Bank (VMIB) with 1TB of cloud storage was created and made available to most image based EQA programs.

The OASYS team also worked on developing the capability for us to provide EQA programs with videos. This resulted in 1WA launching SPVM – Sperm Motility in 2020 which will use the new technology.

Also, the online ordering feature is now enabled and 1WA participants can use the online catalog to view and order subscriptions online.

Our new public website was launched. The company underwent some brand exercises and website development work with internal at external assistance to unveil the new public website in October of 2019.

With regards to the result evaluation, in October test events we added new statistics which included a PAD Score % (Percentage of Allowed Deviation Score %).  The PAD score is calculated by this formula: (Difference between participant’s result and target value/evaluation limit) x 100 which will be shown for certain evaluation criteria.  This was to provide a better metric than the SDI for those analytes that do not have an evaluation criterion using the SD. Similarly, we also added a Z-score statistic for some evaluation criteria.

With the new statistics, also came new graphical representation of the data for quantitatively reported analytes.

Moreover, we were also successful in internal process improvements to affect our Turn Around Time for our evaluations. Our team has been able to reduce the turnaround time from results deadline for releasing performance reports allowing our participants to receive their reports within a shorter period of time.

On the global expansion efforts, 1WA signed new partnership agreements with distinguished commercial groups in Jordan United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and a few other partnerships will be announced soon with new groups on different continents.

The EQA Sample Production program also expanded with 2 new members in Ethiopia and Jordan receiving training on how to make clinically relevant EQA samples in bacteriology.

We are looking forward to another successful year working with you and wish you all the best in 2020.
