The African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) is an independent, international, not-for-profit organization that coordinates, galvanizes and mobilizes relevant stakeholders at the local, national, and international levels to improve local access to world-class diagnostic services and ensure healthy African communities now and for the long-term.
ASLM is the first pan-African society for laboratory professionals, endorsed by the African Union (AU) and supported by multiple African Ministers of Health through its Ministerial Call for Action.
ASLM serves the community of laboratory professionals, as well as networks of public health laboratories delivering clinical and public health functions in Africa. ASLM serves the global health agenda for the laboratory sector in Africa by supporting the efforts of Africa CDC and the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa (AFRO) and Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean.
Oneworld Accuracy plays a large role in laboratory quality in Africa and we are proud to be a part of the ASLM conference year over year. In 2018, we shared a presence at ASLM with our colleagues of I-TECH of the University of Washington, AMREF of Nairobi, NRL of Melbourne and NNEQAS of Abuja. We invite all of our healthcare partners to contribute to this worthy organization. We are proud to have posters accepted for presentation during the conference with our colleagues. The poster "Optimizing quality testing in Nigerian laboratories through participation in the Nigerian National External Quality Assessment System (NNEQAS)" was presented with our colleagues at NNEQAS and "Improving the quality of laboratory testing in RESAOLAB countries through a regional approach" was presented with our colleagues at Fondation Mérieux and our Ministry of Health partners of all West African RESAOLAB members.
During this conference we launched our program to facilitate sustainable EQA by training participants to make their own microbiology EQA samples, through the EQA Sample Production Program (EQASP). This training and program has been made possible by Dr. Michael Noble of CMPT of UBC with the knowledge that he brings from his lengthy experience producing EQA samples for Canadian Microbiology PT (CMPT). For more information on this program please read the EQASP brochure.
